The Game

Friday night I went out with my friend Jessica. We started with dinner and cocktails at Elephant Bar and then made our way downtown to puruse Menver. We met up with Jamie and her date for a little while and listened to some nice Jazz music in a little dive bar in Lodo. Then Jessica and I left them to go to Tavern Downtown and look for "opportunities".

Much to our chagrin it was something like college night in Tavern and we felt a little old there. It was late, so we figured we'd just finish our drinks and then head home. While we were talking a young man came up to us and asked very seriously "My little sister wants to tatoo her boyfriends's name on her arm, what do I tell her to convince her to not make this mistake?" That was his pick up line. He followed that with reading our minds, asking us about our passions in life and then showing us a gaudy ring on his finger and telling us something sentimental about it (I can't remember what, guess it really hit home). Anyway, after they kicked us out of the bar, he asked me for my email address. I told him he had to email me the answers to those mind tricks so I could read my friends' minds.

Saturday morning I had a new email. Tavern boy asked me if I was available to go out Monday or Tuesday night. I haven't responded yet, not really sure what to say. He was a nice enough guy... but - I talked to my friend on Saturday evening and she told me about a book called "The Game" by Neil Strauss which is an autobiography about becoming a pick up artist. When I started to describe my evening with this guy to her, she started laughing and told me about this book. It makes sense - he had my attention, but the whole time he was talking to us, I felt like it was really phony and not at all sincere. Anyway, I think I'm going to have to borrow this book from the library sometime so I don't get "played" again in the future!
